Privacy Policy

Overview

PingOwl is built with your privacy at its core. We collect the minimum data needed to keep you safe, check on your loved ones, and deliver AI companion calls. Your data belongs to you.

What We Collect

• Name — to personalize your experience and identify you in alerts and calls.
• Phone number — to send SMS alerts and deliver AI companion calls to your contacts.
• Home address — shared with contacts only during an active emergency alert.
• Last known location — only accessed and shared during an emergency alert.
• Check-in history — stored locally to power streaks and ensure the timer works correctly.
• Call schedules — the times, frequency, and health reminders you set for companion calls. Stored on our server to trigger calls at the right time.
• Apple ID identifier — used for authentication via Sign in with Apple. We do not receive your Apple email or password.

How Your Data Is Stored

Your personal data (contacts, check-in history, preferences) is stored locally on your device. Call schedules and usage data are synced to our backend server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) to enable scheduled AI companion calls. We do not store conversation audio or transcripts from AI calls.

AI Companion Calls

PingOwl uses AI to place caring phone calls to your loved ones at scheduled times. These calls are processed through:

• LiveKit — powers the real-time voice AI conversation. Audio is processed in real-time and is not recorded or stored.
• Twilio — connects the AI call to your contact's phone number. Twilio processes the call routing and does not retain call content.

Calls are initiated from our server based on the schedule you set. The AI conversation happens in real-time and is not recorded, stored, or reviewed by us.

SMS and Voice Alerts

When an emergency alert is triggered, SMS messages and voice calls are sent to your emergency contacts via Twilio. Messages include your name, status, and last known location. Twilio processes this data solely to deliver the message.

Subscriptions

Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment information.

What We Don't Do

• We never sell your data to third parties.
• We do not record or store AI call conversations.
• We do not embed analytics or tracking SDKs in the app. Third-party services we use (Twilio, LiveKit, Cloudflare) may collect operational data under their own privacy policies.
• We do not serve ads or share data with advertisers.
